Peter Lousada played for Olney 1st XVs in 1960/61 when the team’s great rivals were matches against the Bedford Swifts amongst others. The team clubhouse was the Two Brewers pub in the High Street and the changing rooms contained two concrete tubs in an outhouse, each sufficient for a full team to “enjoy” a communal bath.
“When they had, the water was dark brown with floating bits of greenery. Lovely! The singing however seemed quite good perhaps due to the echo!”
The Two Brewers bar displayed mementos of past celebrations, including, hanging over the bar a doorstep sandwich with a huge mouthful taken out of it and the name of the person who left it there. “Those were the days when men were men and.........”
